Uphold, the prominent American exchange supporting XRP, has addressed recent claims surrounding its CEO, Simon McLoughlin, supposedly predicting that XRP would skyrocket to $10,000. This clarification was made through Uphold’s official X account in response to Crypto Eri, a key figure in the XRP community, who raised concerns about a report suggesting McLoughlin’s bold prediction.
Uphold firmly stated that the assertion of XRP reaching $10,000 ascribed to their CEO is unequivocally false. The exchange emphasized that McLoughlin never made such a prediction for any asset and will not do so in the future.
The speculation originally stemmed from Robert Doyle, also known as “Crypto Sensei,” who repeatedly theorized about XRP potentially hitting $10,000 in various analyses. Despite claiming that McLoughlin stated, “Every country would soon use XRP,” Crypto Sensei failed to provide any concrete evidence to support this assertion.
It is worth noting that Uphold is Ripple’s payout partner for treasury payments between multinational companies, specifically catering to Ripple’s clients in the U.S., U.K., and Europe. McLoughlin expressed excitement about witnessing the real-world utility of cryptocurrencies in action and reiterated Uphold’s focus on the utility aspect rather than speculation.
After Doyle’s claims, crypto journalist Scott Matherson further perpetuated the $10,000 prediction in an article, which inaccurately implied that McLoughlin had endorsed such a target for XRP.
In light of Uphold’s debunking of these claims, Crypto Eri has urged the exchange to take additional steps to combat the spread of misleading information on public platforms, particularly since other YouTubers have also perpetuated the false narrative.
