Uphold, the prominent American exchange supporting XRP, has addressed recent allegations suggesting that its CEO, Simon McLoughlin, had predicted XRP would soar to $10,000.
The clarification was made through Uphold’s official X account, in response to claims made by Crypto Eri, a respected member of the XRP community. Eri brought attention to a report claiming McLoughlin had forecasted a $10,000 price for XRP, expressing doubt that such speculative statements could come from a reputable platform like Uphold.
Uphold firmly denied the allegations, stating that the claim of XRP reaching $10,000 ascribed to its CEO was completely false. The exchange emphasized that McLoughlin had never made such a prediction for any asset and had no intentions of making similar claims in the future.
The origin of the false claim can be traced back to Robert Doyle, also known as “Crypto Sensei,” who repeatedly suggested in his analyses that XRP could potentially reach $10,000. He referenced McLoughlin’s statement about every country using XRP to support his theory, despite failing to provide any concrete evidence.
Uphold’s partnership with Ripple, serving as the payout partner for treasury payments among multinational companies, was also highlighted. McLoughlin expressed enthusiasm for the practical application of cryptocurrencies and emphasized the exchange’s focus on utility over speculation.
After Doyle’s claims gained traction, crypto journalist Scott Matherson inaccurately reported that McLoughlin had predicted a $10,000 target for XRP, further fueling the misinformation.
In response to Uphold’s clarification, Crypto Eri has urged the exchange to take additional steps to combat the spread of false information, especially as other content creators have perpetuated the inaccurate narrative.
