Uphold, the prominent American exchange supporting XRP, has debunked recent claims that its CEO, Simon McLoughlin, predicted a price of $10,000 for XRP. The clarification was made through Uphold’s official X account in response to Crypto Eri’s highlighting of a report suggesting McLoughlin had made such a bold projection.
Expressing disbelief in such speculative assertions coming from a reputable platform like Uphold, Eri sought clarification. Uphold firmly stated that the claim of XRP reaching $10,000 ascribed to its CEO is unequivocally untrue. The exchange emphasized that McLoughlin never made such a forecast for any asset and has no intention of doing so in the future.
The origin of this claim can be traced back to Robert Doyle, also known as “Crypto Sensei,” who repeatedly mentioned the possibility of XRP reaching $10,000 in his analyses. Doyle referenced McLoughlin’s alleged statement about every country using XRP to support his argument for the lofty price point. However, no concrete evidence was provided to support this claim.
Uphold’s partnership with Ripple for treasury payments was verified by The Crypto Basic, highlighting the exchange’s role in facilitating payments between multinational companies for Ripple’s U.S., U.K., and European clients. McLoughlin expressed enthusiasm for witnessing the practical utility of cryptocurrencies and emphasized Uphold’s focus on utility over speculation.
Following Uphold’s debunking of the claims, Crypto Eri urged the exchange to take further action to remove misleading content from public platforms, as other YouTubers had also perpetuated the false narrative.
