Shytoshi Kusama, the enigmatic lead developer of the Shiba Inu project, remains steadfast in his anonymity despite making an appearance at a Web3 conference in Japan.
The revelation took place today at the ongoing Infinity Venture Summit (IVS) in Kyoto, Japan. Kusama emerged publicly for the first time after announcing his presence at the IVS’s Shiba Inu meet-and-greet event for enthusiasts. True to his word, the Shiba Inu lead developer showed up in person.
Maintaining his air of mystery, Kusama chose to attend the IVS conference in a disguised costume, keeping his identity under wraps from the public eye. Footage and images of the masked Kusama quickly circulated within the Shiba Inu community.
Reports from the SHIB community member in Japan, Kuro, showcased interactions between attendees and Kusama during the meet-and-greet session at the Shiba Inu booth at IVS. Additionally, WeCreate3, a Web3 student community in Japan, shared a glimpse of their brief encounter with Kusama and expressed intentions to collaborate with Shiba Inu down the road.
The revelation of Kusama’s appearance at IVS triggered a range of reactions among crypto enthusiasts. While some praised his decision to attend the event in person, others criticized his persistent anonymity behind a mask, suggesting that SHIB enthusiasts present should unveil his true identity.
As of now, the true identity of Kusama remains veiled in secrecy. Shiba Inu was introduced in August 2022 by an anonymous developer or group known as ‘Ryoshi.’ After Ryoshi’s unexpected departure in 2022, Kusama and his team assumed leadership of the project’s ecosystem development. It is worth noting that Shytoshi and his team oversee the Shiba Inu ecosystem, which operates independently without centralized control.
Despite the project’s successes under his guidance, Kusama continues to shield his true identity from the public, citing his reserved nature. Recently, he expressed his intention to adopt a more assertive stance in promoting Web3, signaling a departure from his cautious approach.
