Shibarmy Scam Alerts, a community-based channel dedicated to warning about scams, is advising members of the Shiba Inu community to be cautious of fake SHIB airdrops.
In their most recent alerts, the channel stressed that there are no official SHIB airdrops currently available. They also cautioned users against linking their wallets to suspicious websites in an effort to claim the SHIB airdrop.
The warning indicates that any claims of SHIB airdrops are fraudulent and should be ignored.
Moreover, they shared a screenshot of a deceptive post promoting a SHIB airdrop, created under the false name “Roberto Colon.” The post detailed steps for community members to take part in the deceitful airdrop, including connecting their wallets to a dubious website.
By connecting their wallets to these sites, users risk giving scammers full access to their funds, resulting in potential financial loss.
Investigations reveal that the scammers behind the deceptive post have been striving to lend it credibility by retweeting other Shiba Inu-related news to mislead investors into thinking the airdrop is legitimate.
It was discovered that the account responsible for the post was established in October 2010 and has garnered 1,437 followers. Despite over 1,900 views of the SHIB airdrop post, it has only received two likes in the past three days, indicating that the community is aware of the scam.
Airdrops are commonly used in the crypto space as a marketing tool to reward loyal members with free tokens. However, scammers have exploited this method to trick unsuspecting individuals into compromising their wallets or divulging sensitive information like seed phrases.
This is not the first time the Shiba Inu ecosystem team has cautioned against engaging with fraudulent SHIB airdrops. In a previous report, the official Shiba Inu handle warned of unauthorized airdrops for SHIB and advised against clicking on any associated links to prevent potential wallet draining.
In addition to SHIB, scammers have also launched fake airdrops for tokens related to Shiba Inu’s ecosystem and partners, such as BONE, KNINE, and LEASH. The ecosystem team has issued similar alerts for these tokens, urging users to steer clear of these deceptive airdrops.
